Hosea is hard reading ... for the reasons you list, with the way God feels our lack of fidelity, covenat marriage, to the LORD of the Universe, forgiving and merciful beyond compare. What we could nt do in the Old Testament, we can fulfill only through Jesus' perfect obedience. I can sing it right now ... Jesus paid it ALL, All to Hi Hi I owe, Sin had left a Crimson stain, He washed it white as snow ! Amen

Yes, I believe that Gomer is a symbol of us. This why God insisted on Hosea taking a wife of the redlight district. Hosea did not want to We are able to see in this passage that God do not like for us to go chasing after sin. We are being represented here as whores and prostitutes.
