- Go to Bi-Polar...a terrible disorder at times when it is uncontrolled.
Kabu
Well, I've written that my husband is disabled with bi-polar and schizoid effective dx's plus crippling depression, all separately. He's been hospitalized off and on and I could write a book. Bi-polar is becoming a very common dx, it's with all the side issues that it gets so confusing and hard to treat and like already said, the individuals vary so much. The whole mental health issue....and the treatment issues....are mammoth. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Very sad; I add my thoughts and prayers to your dear Sons, especially
# 1. Bi-polar is a wickedly frightening condition; I know of one person who suffers from it and it is so destructive and heartbreaking for everyone involved..

Re: Kabu
After reading your post here, I want to throw up. It brings everything back so vividly. My DIL, wife of #2 in FL and mother of three of my grandchildren there, was everything you said in your description. She is deceased now, having committed suicide successfully after many failed attempts. She would not take medicines except when they were forced upon her when in the hospital each time. My grandchildren adored her, but they did not understand and it was terrible for them when she died. It is only through the grace of God, and my son being a wonderful father that they have become the wonderful, successful adults that they are.

I have heard of bi-polar disorder but have never met anyone personally with it. I know that is a terrible disease that has had many a negative consequence.

This can be controled and some really love the difference and would not miss a med for anything. I personally know one who fits this mold and some who are the opposite. There are degrees and side illnesses as well that makes it different one from another. Sorry you went and are in a way going through it now as the children are connected to the parent who may still be acting out. Love you.

Kabu
It used to be called 'manic-depressive' - a term far more descriptive of a condition that can be devastating...All one can do is hope the meds work and are being taken...

Bi-polar syndrome used to be called manic-depressive disorder,
because of the extreme mood swings. I've known people with this and it can be managed, but those who suffer with it often hate the meds that level the moods. I'm sorry your kids have to deal with this, and I hope they can convince their father to show concern for them and do what he needs to do. Keep praying, it can't hurt.

Yes, well - it will affect you personally. Things that affect and upset our children can't help but touch a mother. I guess finding him a new wife pronto would help?
