Re:

Yes the old farm houses were usually designed for more purposes than one could shake a stick at. I should not think we will ever see half a pig on the kitchen wall. Or a pile of pig's inners soaking in the stone sink.

Re:

I think a lot of ghosts were Barn owls, they are pretty scary if one is out alone in the dark. We should try and think of old superstitions, you could start it on your blog, it has to be true of course. My Grampy would never burn elder wood, perhaps it started by someone breaking a piece and finding blood in the stem. Of course it was not blood, I'll have to examine some shoots one day.

Re: Katray

Opportunity only strikes once K.  AS I knocked it out in a hurry, I wondered if ciggies and matches were around then, about 1870 so it appears and there was not a record of a blood moon that I could see until a much later date. So one can write history unless someone disproves ones assumption.

Re: Naut

Well it was as clear as a bell here Naut. I did get up and look at it three times, of course there are too many lights everywhere but the stars were bright and the moon was brick red eventually.

I love the superstitions that families used to hold...probably from way back before the Saxons.

This reminds me so much of my husband's family old farmhouse.  Visits there were quite exciting for me as I had been a city girl all my life.
