I used to use my phone a lot...texting and talking...now I mainly use it for emergencies

My used to have a party line about 10 to 15 years ago...everybody knew everyone else's business

don't use one. We have an old cell phone in the car for an emergency and I have an old one I paid $37.00 for to use when I am in Australia. I mainly text the family back there and tell them where I am when I will see them etc. Also I text #1 Son al ot when I am back there to annoy him. He ignores most of my texts.

How life has changed so quickly.

Well Justi I have to ring myself once a month to keep the phone active. I keep it in a shopping bag and just take it if driving, just in case I should not be able to start the old car up. It really is amazing folk walk around talking into the phones as though their lives depend on it. They probably do not know what to say when they meet up in the flesh.

Hello Justi...

Thank you for visiting me again.  I have a mobile phone, and while I don't use it often, I do take it with me when I'm out.  I leave it turned off when I'm say, at the cinema or eating out.  I refuse to answer a call if I'm out with someone important.  Still, I feel safer knowing I have it with me in case there should arise some sort of emergency.

Would you believe that I only have a landline phone with an answering machine at home, and I do not carry a phone with me when I go places.  I don't want one.  I don't really enjoy talking on the phone, and I don't really like being within reach of everyone under the sun.  So what do I do if I get stuck somewhere with car trouble or such?  I guess we will find out some day.

Some very cogent observations! There is no doubt these things have brought changes in the manner and the frequency people interact with one another, and it would be interesting to do a study on the whole issue. I have one, of course (?), and it's always with me, but certainy not always in use! I use it mostly as a phone, as a means to stay in touch with a few very good friends I can't always reach by phone (I even check into Blogit occasionally, LOL) and as a quick way to get some information I may want. I find it useful, but I am certainly not addicted - it spends 90per cent of its time in my pocket, LOL...
