I like to take a really big blossom

like one of those huge dahlias and trim off the stem to just float the blossom on a bowl of water. They are so dramatic, they don't need the company of other flowers bunched up in a vase.

That must have been an interesting letter!  Your flowers brighten my day.

My mother always grew phlox, both creeping and the tall ones.  Her yard was perfect for them, and I adored her gardens.  On the north side of her house she always had lily-of-the-valley growing, and Dutchman's breeches among other shade-loving plants.  I never saw those anywhere else in people's yards.

Re:Kabu

Yes they should be fairly hardy, but the seeds are little terrors to germinate.

Re:

Yes one has to acquire a taste for it FS . Although beer tastes a bit raw until one has had a couple and then it is as smooth as milk.

Re:

Yes I used to grow them Pat, they would do well in a warm year, but if it was wet, it was not a good garden plant here. Of course I just grow for cut flowers now so it limits the variety.

Have you ever raised or sold Gerber Daisies? They were very much

THE thing for gardens & pots in this neck of the woods, bright and friendly little things.

My father tried O'Doul's years ago. He did not like it and stuck with alcohol beer...A deep reflection, I find that to be.

I cannot understand why people are picky about the color ...all flowers are such a treat. Mother used to do well with phlox. I must try them again.
