So many unsung warrior women just found their voice here!
It reads like truth to me, and like endurance, stoic determination. It's deeper than anger and bloodier - righteous awareness of the abuse of power. Sista!

A beautiful tribute to your grandmother. I imagine she was a very wonderful woman and would be so touched by your poem.

I don't remember reading this one before. I'm certain that if I had I would remember it, though memory fails me more often than it used to. Well done. True to the way it was.

Powerfully written - but the hardship was not just one-sided...And things have changed, as Krisles has put it well...

Oh, yes......Sweet one. There were so many indentured servants who came to this country. But what were the wives called? You've said it all. There is no whining and carrying on all these generations later because most of us have sense enough to thank our ancestors for enduring it all........for it is sure as hell better now, what we have, no matter what it is.......and this is true for, I would bet you 95% of the descendants of indentured servants from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Germany....see, we paid attention in school and learned about the potato famine, WWI, WWII, all that kind of stuff - we're damn grateful to be here!
I'll take America, warts and all....you can have your precious African, Mexican and European sensibilities....in fact, go back if it's so wonderful....seriously...that is really my mood these days. And they wonder why Trump is so popular! Yes, I've had a cocktail....sorry.....I'm just thinking about all my ancestors did endure....and how sad they would be....but, hey! That's what they probably thought when my generation came along, too!
