Naut, thank you for simplifying that; I do hope you are planning a book on all this one day. There was an interesting piece by historian Tom Holland in the Sunday Times this weekend, which you might find interesting..

Thank you, again....for a basic and clear post for those of us not as learned as you are in these matters. This does give me something to more concretely hold as a basis for understanding when I read the articles that go off with what I think of as a lot of salad, when what I want is meat and potatoes.

I have to confess that I do not pay as much attention to this particular subject as
others. Even though, as usual it is well written and easy to decipher if one is paying
attention. Honestly, I don't think we can do much about this outside of a voting booth.

Here you are my friend and more often than not I cannot make an intelligent response to this blog, that is mostly my fault.To begin with because I lived for a short time in Morocco, I did come to know some things about the Muslim culture, and learned to have an instant dislike for the Islamic religion. How does one even learn a certain human respect for a religion which regards all the believers of other religions as merely infidels.
As an Irish Catholic who enjoyed alcohol in those days, my description of those Muslim people who I met and how they believed or behaved, would be too uncouth to sully this description vis a vis this entire blog of yours which is really a well written treatise on the matter.
The fact I do not have the mental capability to deal with the subject as a student has nothing to do with your writing but my emotions. If I am an infidel to them, to me they are criminals and terrorists and not worth my time learning anything more about them.
If there are Muslims or a section of Islam that has respect for others, I wish they would open up to the world about it, educate us, earn the respect required to give you the kind of human peace you deserve as much as I do.
When I came back to Canada after military service overseas in Morocco, I met Muslims as a businessman buying and selling printing equipment and machinery. Ninety percent of those Muslims never paid their invoices as agreed upon in the beginning, to me or to my confrere's in the U.S.A.
We all simply made it a habit to cease dealing with that culture.
I felt I owed you this explanation as my friend, and apologize for not being able to give you comments to meet the situation you write about, there seems to be no answer to this horrific problem which even you seems to be at a loss to give us hope for a happy ending.
Sorry for the long comment but I just felt I owe this to you for all your teaching skills kind of wasted on me.
