I think, based on your son's poem, that I can infer what
stridulating is. Thinking to summers past, it's akin to timpani, and tends to make a two-way conversation a bit complicated on the old front porch.

I think the Sydney Cicada cycle is 7 years...I miss their song up here.
Tell Son his poem has made me just a little homesick but I think he is brilliant.

Love it! And I learned a new word in the process! I figured it was related to strident, though I had never heard of stridulate - but I have now...And neither do I have the slightest knowledge of the cicada life cycle...

The whole idea of any writing that Son #1 does is to use words that someone might have to look up in the dictionary. He was brought up that way. When he asked what some word meant, he was always told to look it up. I don't want to defeat his purpose by telling.
