I feel bad whenever I see any animal roaming the streets or on the side of the road dead, except these ugly nasty Javelinas we have here roaming our area, which once was their territory. One killed a dog the other day here in the park, how sad and scary that must of been for the owner of the dog

I've seen people stop and carry a turtle across the road in this area.
On the university's 2,600 acre campus there are woodlands, grasslands, etc., and a large wildlife population, including herds of deer, wild turkeys, etc. There are creeks, and so there are all kinds of birds, frogs, etc. And coyotes, too. Once in a while on a nature program there'll be stories about highway engineers who actually build overpasses so the wildlife can safely cross under the driving lanes.

Well Kabu there's alway turtle soup. Seriously though provisions are made for some creatures over here. I have read about it from time to time, but cannot think what creatures it was for. I know some kind hearted folk put up signs frogs crossing etc. I suppose the problem is one would have to fence all the roads to ensure that the animals took the underground crossing or even overground. The only thing I can think of really is plenty of signs indicating that others are sharing the road .

I'll join you on that soapbox, dear Kabu! It must be telepathy..I was thinking of writing my blog on something similar...everytime I see a dead animal on the road it bothers me terribly. And there seems to be constant lack of compassion towards animals on Facebook lately too...it is so wrong!

We have quite a lot of night accidents around here from deer on the roads...and a lot of squashed opossums and raccoons.

Every so often, I see turtles on The Trail during my walks. They are really neat creatures. I guess it stems from my enjoyment of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Highway 87 that goes through the Adirondacks leading up to Canada has some
tunnels for the animals. But not enough. And, yes, I would swerve for a turtle and
have.

Yay for you for writing this post! And thank you as well! There is a fox den-actually, two that I know of-near where we are. One is right behind a church. Well, said den is constantly being disturbed by people. As a result, the foxes have come into our complex in search of food.
The common voiced solution to this unspeakable problem? KILL ALL THE FOXES. After all, they're dangerous...they'll kill our children and our pets...they're loaded with rabies and other diseases...they're useless good for nothings....blah, blah, blah!
The fox was here long before any people had rights to this earth. They are only dangerous when sick or threatened by other animals, or...people. They will not eat what they have not killed themselves unless they or their kits are starving to death. They are not scavengers nor will they ever be. They will not kill your children or your pets. Unless, again, they are sick or starving. They would rather stay clear of us and have us stay clear of them.
But then, they're only dumb animals aren't they?
By the way, I love turtles, too. And you.
