My father was about 12-years-old at that time, and had told us tales of hearing about his cousin Johnny who was killed on Omaha beach on D-Day. Meanwhile, the civilians back home were rationing their butts off, making due with whatever they could. Tough times, but we got through it, because they were the greatest generation! I can't even imagine what people would do today under the same circumstances . . .

And I was born in the April of "45...I feel like it has been war and hate and misunderstandings all of my life.

Re: annicita

shows us how war has changed, many forget during ww2 the people back home were also fighting in their way, today we just go on as usual.

Lo Jean some of the guys in our regiment volunteered for Korea, I think they thought it would be fun.Sadly no war is ever what the young soldier dreams it will be.

I loved your story from the past.  I always forget that you are in Salina.  Back in the late 1960's and early 1970's when our sons were young we often stopped in Salina on our way West at a KOA-type camp ground with our camper for the night.  Sons thought that was so fun.  LOL

many don't stop to think of the effects of war on those who aren't even fighting
