Of course he did not mean it. he just wanted to knock some sense into your brain boxes.
Evidently it worked, I expect he made quite a fuss of that dog when he was alone with his thoughts.

I'll bet your dad secretly admired his doggie's independence and
his tendency to go off on his own... Funny how guys don't let on that they have feelings until they get so worked up they become little boys again... Kinda sweet, actually.

Reminds me of my Paw Paw, he had a collie named Mister. He and mister spent all their time togather. I loved mister as well.

So wonderful it is that your parents had dogs of their own...As a youngster, I, too, probably would have looked at your mother's dog as the family pet and your father's dog as the farm dog.
