Cigarette smoking is down in the States as well. Taxes, public service announcements and good parenting are why. I remember when cigarettes were a lot more common. Thankfully, they are becoming uncommon.

I smoked occasionally, "socially" when Fang and I were out with
friends. But even 50 years ago they were a horrible waste of money, and were known as cancer sticks and coffin nails. Never really got hooked. I think of them (and cola drinks) as poison now - don't see why anyone who loves life would touch 'em. Mama quit when she was 68 - cold turkey - when Dr. told her she had a choice: either smoke or breathe.

George and I stopped the same day without telling each other. That has been almost 20 years ago now. Maybe I should do a post about that. Both of us were long time smokers. I think there is lot to the family influence on the children but no totally.

Well of course in the old days nearly everyone smoked . It was a kind of ritual here offering folk a cigarette and during latter years occasionally one could get hold of massive boxes with extra long ones from the USA personal. It was easy for kids just put money in in a convenient slot machine outside many shops and no one said it was bad for health. Remember the old slogan 'After pleasure, it is time to relax . I am really amazed that some Doctors still smoke. I don't know if these E cigarettes are better if they are I suppose it is the best alternative if one cannot kick the habit.

I never quit because I never really started. I tried it once just to say I tried it. But, I sure have been around a lot of it.

Guilty
. But I certainly agree with you about getting kids interested in sports or arts or even business - whatever tickles their fancy - to help them make good choices.

We quit together really, because I couldn't smoke with us getting together. It was easier to quit alcohol for me. Good post love.

I too quit 'cold turkey,' though much earlier. But I substituted banana splits on certain occasions when I would have smoked otherwise...

I never, ever picked up a fag, and I'm thankful to God every day of my life that I didn't. Can you just imagine 'ow 'orrible my lungs would have been, on top of the usual CP factors??
