- Go to Elderly? No Way!
I'm one of the "young" ones
And because I look younger than I actually am, I tend to have the opposite problem. I still get asked to show ID every time we visit the liquor store, and it's hard to get anyone to take me seriously when buying big things (cars, homes, TV's etc). I have to shop with hubby or the sales people will totally ignore me.

Yes, I can remember the first time
I went for a mammagram and was referred to as having elderly changes and I was in my 40's. I was like nooooo. They're perky. LOL I can't get up from the floor unless I have something to push or pull on.

Re: mneme
I definitely cannot get up from the floor (or ground) without rolling over onto my knees and using my hands.... But, so far, I've always been able to get up by myself when I have fallen. Son #1 and I were trying to remember all of the falls we have had in our adult life to see who has fallen the most. I couldn't believe how many falls I could remember--on ice, down stairs, stubbing toe, etc., etc. It is a wonder I'm not already dead.

My first experience at being referred to as 'elderly' came when I was about 40. A co-worker was telling something to someone that had to do with an incident that happened in the '60's, but needed corroboration. So they turned in my direction and began their question with "Hey, you're old! How about . . " It bothered me for a while, but I eventually shook it off . . .

Back when I was 23 (I am 29 now), nine-year-old Brian Gabber told me I was an old man.

The difference in nuances between 'old' and 'elderly' are interesting, and to be called 'elderly' at 35 is shocking - but it's also ridiculous. The doc at that moment used it not in the way it is generally used in our culture, but as a 'technical' term! An instance where the same word has rather different meanings - not all that infrequent...

I think of myself as old - ya gotta admit the years when you remember
things that happened along the way - but elderly? Nope. Elderly = frail, hesitant, in need of assistance. So far, so good in that department.

Well I sometimes walk down town and try and put elderly faces back into their original profiles. The probably think what is that old guy studying my makeup for.
A little while ago I was just the opposite to Adnhor a woman asked as I bought a bottle
of medicinal Scotch if I was over 21. 'Are you taking the Mickey?' I asked.
'No 'she said, some folk look old when they are under that age.'

Actually I did get offered a first time Senior discount, and it was by a young cashier in the good old USA!!! My Detroit Suzie was with me, and she and her sister had to hide behind the shelves, both laughing at the expression on my face! The little girl did a double take when she saw it too, and began to apologize...and that made ME laugh.

Wow that was interesting. Yes I too like aging except from some of the things I can not do and some ailments. You be blessed.
