I guess those horses and dogs should just be admired and not necessarily bet on! And I don't blame you for not being overly anxious to stand amongst such crowds. Better to simply watch from a distance sometimes . . .

I gottcha dear it is our Derby here. My little grandson's other grandparents have horses 'those kinds of horses'. His grandmother raises fillies for the day before derby race. She has sold some for such a price it makes me dizzy to think of it so I usually do not! The clothes and parties are out of this world and totally out of my range. However, she is sweet as can be, a truely lovely lady.

I live in the Baltimore area, where the Preakness, one of the biggest horse races in the country, Is held. From what I've read and heard, it is a little too wild for me.

Your Melborne race day sounds a lot like the Kentucky Derby run
in Louisville in early or midsummer... Big hats, being seen with the "in" crowd, etc. I do love to watch the horses, but the lah-te-dah folderol of these special events turns me right off.

Nurse .
Oh! Dear grandma are you at home?
Can you repair a garden gnome?
The little chap was on the fiddle
He drank his fill and could not tiddle.
Alas! at last a heavy frost
Cracked his leg and he has lost
his poise and his ability.
All because of that you see.
I did think I'd design a hat.
something large and rather flat.
I think that he has got a crack
A kind of fissure down his back.
Please do not think I'm being silly
I know that gnomes can't have a Willy.
Well just encase they do imbibe
in ways I cannot quite describe.
I know you work with glues and tack.
You take gnomes in and seal each crack
Perhaps when repaired it might help though
If you would just remove one toe.
The winner,

It's funny what captures the imagination sometimes.
I have never cared about sports, but got totally into baseball the year the Seattle team was in the World Series. I watch football if someone whose company I enjoy is watching it. Horse racing... now, that gets my heart racing right along with the horses!
