Re:
I can't vouch for the hockey players, adnohr, but the maple syrup would be fine! We can't get all of our syrup from Vermont! And I can only assume that, since airplanes in general are extremely complex pieces of machinery, each one of those states has a specific part ( or two ) that they solely supply! How it turned into that state's 'main' export is beyond me . . .

Re: Where did you find this list?
That's very true, Jemmie. If I were to have guessed on Hawaii's main export ( or any export, for that matter ) I too would have thought of coffee, pineapples, sugar, or even macadamia nuts, but not airplane parts! Believe me, I know what you mean by the 'accuracy' of some lists and other information, but don't shoot the messenger! I found this on-line and decided to share it, and, like most things of this nature, I had to assume it is accurate! Perhaps some further research might prove otherwise . . .

Re: JimmyA
That's so true, Sir Wiley. Believe me, I'm sure a lot of people down here were just as surprised as our Canadian cousins to see what was coming out of which state! Airplane parts! Who would have guessed . . . ?

Re:
I would suppose, Annicita, that it would depend on the region. The U.S. has always been an industrial giant, and I believe it's manufacturing facilities are second to none. But many states specialize in a few different products, and this list is only showing what the "main" export is. Very few showed a food product as its main export, but that doesn't mean they're still not producing and exporting them . . .

Re:
Glad to see you again, Carolyn! Yes, my wife and I are doing our best to enjoy the summer, especially after the long, brutish winter we had! And I would imagine that John Deere tractors coming out of Iowa would make sense since Iowa is rich in farm land and would have the most use for them! Then they export them to other states! Best state in the nation? Okay! I'll buy that for a dollar . . .

Re:
Maybe you should check that out, Kabu. Things change over the years, and what was once a popular product may now be on the decline! And I'll bet you that, if you were to ask someone from Europe or South America or even Australia what they thought might be the main export from the various states in America, no one would have guessed airplane parts! I wouldn't have, and I live here . . .

Re:
I have a feeling, C C T, that the 'cheap gas' produced from this fracking business is not going to end up as the main export of one particular state! Someone will spread it out and monopolize it eventually! And yeah, I suppose we do have a lot of planes over here! As long as they take off and land properly . . .

Re:
See, FSI? I guess none of us know our states as well as we thought we did! I wasn't quite sure what the main export from my fair state of New Jersey was, but I honestly didn't think it was petroleum! Live and learn . . .

Re: Jimmy
Fire away, Naut. Knowing that Ontario is Canada'a leading manufacturing province, you may be just as surprised to find out what Ontario's main export is! Could be iron or steel, could be other natural resources, or it just could be automobile parts as opposed to airplane parts! Happy hunting . . .

As CCT commented, how many airplane parts do we need? Interesting post, Jimmy. I imagine Quebec would be known for its maple syrup...or more likely exporting our top notch hockey players.

Where did you find this list?
It is curious. I wonder if it is true...depending on the source.
Today I saw a map of the richest people in each state. Hawaii's richest person, according to the map, is the founder of eBay. However, after a little research, I found he doesn't reside in Hawaii, but in Nevada.
Made me question all such lists instantly.
On your list (well, not YOURS, per se), Hawaii's biggest export is automobile parts. I have NEVER heard of any auto part factories here. In parentheses, it says something about papaya coming in, I think, 15th. Funny, because I would never have even thought of papaya as a major export. My thoughts would be coffee and/or pineapple. Many years ago I would have said sugar, but that industry has slowed quite considerably.

John Deere tractors coming out of Waterloo, Iowa. Best state in the nation because I live here! I'm not a narcissist! Hi JimmyA, hope this finds you enjoying the rest of the Summer! Carolyn

I was thinking to myself ...never mind oil, gas, coal, gold, oranges almonds and walnuts, beef or chicken. Never mind clothing and car manufacturing, never mind the movie industry or Silicone Valley even...the USA is all about Airplane parts. LOL. Very Interesting. I must see if I can find a list about Australia. It used to be merino Wool and wheat and Barley when I was a girl.

I was surprised that Maryland's #1 export is transportation parts. I figured it would have been seafood.

Memory parts from Idaho? I thought all they had were taters…Airplane parts from Kentucky? I still like their bourbon best…
But all this gives me an idea – maybe I’ll do a short post about my own amazing State Province, Ontario…
