I am so sorry - I know how hard it is to have to say goodbye to a wonderful friend...And even if you have another one to love, you can never forget any of them...

Re:

Thank you so much.  And also thanks for all the kind words from everyone.  I am still devastated with the loss because I miss him so much, but it is a relief to know that he is in a happy place and no longer in pain.  I am now baby-sitting my "grand-dog" for a week or so.  She is a very funny and active Boston Terrier who makes me smile.

Have been there, and will be again for I will always have at least one doggie. It's hard to let them go, but we have to remember the good life they have lived, with our help, and kiss them goodbye. A big, warm HUG to you.

I have gone through similar types of feelings and emotions from my wife when one of her beloved cats 'leaves her,' so I know what you're going through. I myself had never had a pet of my own, until I got married. Then my wife brought me not one, not two, but three stray kittens she 'found' living near a hotel. I ended up naming all three ( something I had never done before ) and now I've grown unbelievably close to all of them! They won't live forever, and soon I'll be feeling those same feelings as well, something I am not looking forward to! They bring us such joy and give us such wonderful memories, and that's what you'll always have. Be comforted . . .

What a beautiful goodbye letter to your lovely friend. Give him over to his new blessedness. He is happy and there is not time so he will see you as if just an hour regardless of how long that will be. Loved the post.

Yes it does tear into one . Dogs are so forgiving. Although one must never let them suffer just to hold on to them for a while longer. To go to sleep and be free from pain is the perfect end for them if not for their sad owners.
