A woman told me her mother rubbed them with goose grease at the beginning of winter
and they did not take their vests off until spring. A bit smelly by then I would imagine.

So many things in this post remind me of the good old days of my grandmother and then my mother and their ways of doing things. Mother always had goose grees and would mix it with linament or turpentine and rub it on our chests for croupe.
