i love old houses, i grew up in one. my house even though we built it, it is already 30 years old and we have done a little sprucing up, you are right it is very expensive ..even if you shop at home depot and do the work yourself.

Yes be very careful of paint Justi it had lead in much of the old stuff. Wear a mask if you can in dusty tasks. I never used to bother but one becomes a bit more careful these days.

Restoration can be quite the pain...Fortunately, when I renovated my grandmother's house, things went well...I look forward to seeing the photos.

Be careful what you breathe while working there. Back when we restored rooms in our old house, the clouds of black dust was horrible from old plaster and such.

Any form of house restoration can be both costly and time consuming, but when you're doing it the way you've always wanted it to be, it's worth the effort. When you're all done, you can then sit back, marvel at, and enjoy your 'final creation!' Good luck . . .
