Volunteering is a wonderful thing to do at any age. It is good for children to see their parents and grandparents participating in such.

I don't believe there were any such 'volunteer programs' when I was young, and without children now, I'm just not sure of any currently being offered at any of the schools near me. But of course, they are wonderful ideas. However, I honestly don't know how today's youth may actually view volunteering for anything! Aren't many of them being taught to 'always get paid' for their time? I'm guessing here, but sometimes it does seem like the almighty dollar controls just about every aspect of everyone's life, kids included. Perhaps they'll learn the satisfaction of helping someone in any way without being paid for it . . .
