Last winter we drove all the way to Salt Lake City from Denver, up and over the mountains in a January blizzard, but I agree, it takes practice and the knowledge to turn into a slide, pump your brakes to stop, and four wheel drive, or at least front wheel drive, helps tons.

This is a main freeway from Florida to New England, people are traveling, hauling all sorts of freight, picking up children, coming home from work it was not a matter of lets go out and see what we can find.

My wife and I have seen the various images on the news coming from Atlanta, and it really does look post-Apocalyptic, with the roadways completely clogged with traffic and people sleeping in schools and grocery stores! However, I've also seen the reports that the powers-that-be in Atlanta knew this was coming, and did have time to make better preperations! Yes, heavy snows like this may be rare down there, but I believe someone really dropped the ball in making sure the highway commision was better equipped to handle it! I hope it gets all cleared up soon! There seems to be a lot of people suffering because of this . . .

Well Justi we don't get a lot of snow but sometimes the rain freezes on the roads and that makes it really dangerous. Years ago we used to put chains on the wheels if it started snowing and we were out in the villages. I can still imagine that miserable job crawling under the vehicle trying to do up the frozen clips that held the chains.

And another thing - I don't think anyone down there has even heard of winter tires, let alone has them mounted! And with snow and low temps, with your summer tires you're either stuck or you end up going where you don't want to go...

I am sorry about the troubles. It is like when a really dry place gets floods every 15-20 years in Australia and they cannot cope. But we don't have so many people as the States of course so a disaster of any kind is so much bigger to try and deal with.
Yes we layer up and my boots would make you cry and I wear a woolen hat and look like one of my gnomes....then get real hot in the shops and start taking it ll off. LOL. but we have to go out and I love it all.
