I know what you mean, TAPS. Years ago, in my old neighborhood, you could go into almost any diner, any bar, any restaurant, and you would probably know at least half the people in there. Now, so many people have moved away, and so many have moved in, that I hardly recognize a soul anymore! But at least it didn't degenerate into a "crime-ridden" area . . .

Re: Re: Re: Re:
That is the old N.E. area where the richer people lived at one time, big old fancy houses and all. The years have changed it. My sons loved it when they were growing up. Now everyone I know has moved to one suburb or another and the old area is crime-ridden and scarey, but still familiar and interesting to keep up on the news.

Re: Re: Re:
I can understand that, TAPS. I guess you should just be thankful that you weren't still living in that area during the shooting! You'd have a lot more to worry about than mixing up street names . . .

Re: Re:
That I'm not sure of. The guy holed up in the house was wanted on another murder and when the police yelled open up he started shooting and they shot back. I'm not sure who all was confused. Years ago I lived in that area and just happened to live on a street between Lawn & Lawndale, but I still got them mixed up. LOL

Re:
And I'm sure, C C T, that depending strictly on him to keep things sorted has put an unnecessary strain on him! Of course, the simplest and easiest way to avoid such confusion would have been to not put those similar-sounding roads next to each other in the first place! But, sometimes 'logic' has no place in such affairs. I hope your postman can 'hold on' for as long as possible . . .

Re: JimmyA
Think that would help, Bill? Hmmm . . . you may be right. It seems that the more the powers-that-be think and plan, the more confusing things become! Sometimes simple is better . . .

Re: I can relate!
I understand completely, Jemmie. And that's an excellent example of the point of my blog! Why chance the confusion it will almost inevitably cause people by giving similar-sounded names to streets and roads so close together? See? It is as if someone did it on purpose! But why I'm not exactly sure . . .

Re: Jimmy
I would have to say, Naut, that your scenario is even worse than ours. You could almost understand the confusion caused by two similar-sounding street names. But if it's just the house numbers that caused the mix-up, it might be time to see what kind of eye-exam program the post office in your area offers to their carriers . . .

Re:
Geez, TAPS! I wasn't expecting that kind of reply! Was the shootout and/or the officer's wound a result of that mix-up? If so, then someone needs to reconsider those names . . .

Consider yourselves lucky, Sir Wiley. I wish our roads were as easy as that! And thank you very much for the Christmas wishes. Of course the same to you and Kabu. Enjoy . . .

Re:
I know what you mean, Kabu. Besides having similarly-soundind road and numbered highways around us, we too have several roads that start out with one name, cross over another road, and then change to something else. Yes, it can take time to 'sort it out' . . .

Re:
That's always a good plan, FSI. My wife and I do that whenever we can too, and it has helped tremendously. Some places are just too far away for that "test run," but when we can, it has made a difference! See? All it takes is one word to be somewhat similar on two different road signs, and it can become confusing as hell . . .

Join the club Jimmy we have two roads the same name but different post codes. It used to be a nightmare I am sure I lost things. Also I was getting letters not in my name and after reposting them they came back the next day. Fortunately for a while we have had the same Postman so it has been sorted, well until he is replaced.

I can relate!
I live on Waikalani Place . . . which is an offshoot of Waikalani Drive. So many times have people tried to come over only to keep following Waikalani Drive and not even notice Waikalani Place--then call us because they can't find our house.

Hard to tell, though I think it's basically just thoughtlessness. But guess what: I get the occasional letter, adressed to someone on a street not too far away (but named quite differently) and the only thing we have in common is the house number...Of course I drop it off there when I walk Bennie...And I asked the lady once, but she claims she never got one of my letters...

Just yesterday N. Lawndale and N. Lawn got mixed up in police business where a shootout occurred and a policeman got shot in the leg and the shooter ended up with life-threatening wounds.

Our road comes off the highway with one name and a few clicks down the road is named something else and no sign even to say so...I felt rather confused when i got here until I learned to sort it out...

Where I live in Maryland, we have roads like that as well...One time, for my high school internship, the road I was told it was on was Eastern Avenue. My mother and I went on a test run and could not find it. She remembered there is an Old Eastern Avenue. Good thing I had a test run first, or I would have missed my first day.
