I love these tales of yours.  I remember reading this one before, but I was very glad to have a chance to read it again.

Poor little baby girl I guess being older when you were born they weren't sure how a five year old can understand and how hard sometimes it is to be real good. You really write thses stories so vivid...I feel that I am there.

This tale sounds familiar to the ones my dad used to tell us about his childhood experiences during WW II. My grandfather was an Air Raid Warden, and was in charge of going up and down their street making sure that all of people's windows were indeed completely covered during those blackouts. I know it was difficult for children to comprehend what was actually happening ( my dad was 10 in 1941 ). But now that you know what actually happened historically, I guess there's some solace in accepting the fact that the people in London at that time were going through a far, far worse experience. Regardless, it was still a frightening time . . .

I imagine that I would have been very uncomfortable with the blackouts as well and later on during the Cold War, doing all of those bomb drills.

Well you earned your dollar Justi, the way you describe it is how it was in England.

Did you ever get Bombers over? I know the Japanese sent a kind of Bomb by balloons I believe.   Pearl Harbour was a terrible shock, your Mama was quite smart making those frames. War is terrible for children and it keeps raging away somewhere.
