Justi even at that age I thought we were doomed. That speech was like a flame in the darkness. Although we did not fully realize the tragedy that had brought it about.One cannot blame anyone for protecting one's one citizens, but it has all changed now.

Mother said that when britain and FRance declared war on Germany she switched off the big old wirless and walked over to the sheds to tell my dad and Uncle who were working there. My Dad just put his face down on is arms in despair. If Britain was going to war again then so was Australia.
Then, I believe that there was relief when in '41-2 the USA came into the war altho. no one wanted preal Harbour.
