A possible purse-snatching in broad daylight? Unfortunately, nothing surprises me anymore! Yes, you were right to be somewhat paranoid and defensive. As much as we would like to give our "fellow man" the benefit of the doubt, your personal safety must come first! Glad it didn't turn into an ugly scene, and that you're okay . . .

All the news about stuff like that now keeps me from going out at night to do things. Being a night-shift nurse, I always did my shopping at 2:00 a.m. at open-all-night places, used to go to the laundromat in the middle of the night, or out to 3:00 a.m. breakfast at an all nighter. Have impulses to do that still, but I refrain. Too many gun bearers and crazies around.

yes that has been done I am sure many times and in ca you held onto your purse while putting groceries away in the car or they come behind your car and grab it
