It's really a shame. And yes, an "idiot" with a cigarette is pretty universal! It sometimes doesn't take much. I hope they can get them under control soon . . .

Kabu...
I didn't realize how bad the fires were until I saw some footage on television...this makes the fires in the western U.S. look like bonfires.

I am so glad that your family are safe. The fires are terrible, I am from Calif originally and there are alot of fires there because it is such a dry climate. The devistation is just heart breaking.

I hate the fires, beneficial though they may be within limits.
I love the mountains, the green forests, the habitat, and it shakes me to think of critters fleeing in terror and unable to escape. I think you're right - I don't think global warming has a lot to do with little girls playing with matches or guard units shooting off weapons under too-dry conditions.

You are so right Kabu, before their were men to fight the fires, and before that, they burned unchallenged and somehow managed to leave us a world to live in...Sometimes I think the global warming thing is just another way for the rich to get richer, but still it is such a shame specially when they burn so close to our heart (the fires I mean). Oh, and thank you for your comment today, but you do not have to tip-toe around me just because we differ politically, it is who we are inside that matters, you and Wiley will always be my friends and if we can find a way to work our around our political differences we can change the world, just you and I and Wiley. It is only governments and political parties who remove their tongues to spite themselves. Friends are friends always.

Yes we have been praying for all of them. I am sorry about all these Natural Disasters that are happening the world over. I am back for a little note or two when I feel like it. How is dear Wiley? Be blessed.

This is so horrible for me to read, Grandmummy. I will pray that your family remains safe and that the fires will be brought under control as quickly as possible. My broken heart and prayers also for the families of those two dear pilots. May they rest in peace...

So sorry to hear of deaths with these fires...
The destruction is bad enough.
Shifting climates are making the air dryer in some places, and changing wind patterns, all of which affect the land's susceptibility to wildfire, just as it creates warmer ocean waters and therefore increases the intensity of storms that form over water. Changes in wind, the Jet Stream, for instance, contribute to the greater intensity and occurance of tornadoes, too.
It doesn't matter who's been making the change, we need to be ready to live with it.

Well it used to annoy us when the farmers burned the straw on the fields after harvest, all the bits of debris and smuts floated for miles. So I guess it is miserable out there. As you say it is a natural phenomenon, but know one is prepared for it happening.

Very sad! But as you noted, fires have been around forever, in Australia and just about anywhere else as well, except maybe for the Arctic and Antarctic! They affect us more now because we are everywhere now...
