Very good blog
you make some very good points. I will never post mine. I feel comments are good enough. I am retired and I read a lot of blogs but I don't always leave a comment. Even the top blogs don't always have a lot of commnets but you know they are getting read or they wouldn't be up there.

To Wonky- (My "sis") I love you and miss you!!

Thanks to all for the recent comments, too. To Ariala, I'm glad ya cleared that up for me (I didn't want to think that anyone thought I was insinuating that I was calling anyone's work "crap".)  To T99, you know I read you, and I understand what you're saying in your comment, but as far as your statement: " Anyone who takes it personally that a stranger on the internet isn't reading their work is just a tad too sensitive to me." This is one of my points. A stranger on the internet must be a paying "stranger" and member.  Regardless, I was referring to BN Writing Members, not just the "reading only" members. As far as your statement: "A couple of people have also posted requests if you aren't being read by them to let them know.....and I did, and they have since read & liked my work." That is totally cool. However, not all writers will let others know that they are affected by them by not being read. It is probably a personal pride-induced writers' complex. I know there have been times where I have been one of those writers that didn't seem to be being read by someone and was offered to "let them know" but my ego got in the way. I'd rather not grovel (but that's just ME and how I perceive it.) Many of us writers have this attitude. I actually have respect for those who don't have the "writers ego" that I have; but I also retain the respect for those writers that do. So, you just keep up your writing regardless, cause you're read by me and many others!!

Sassyass, what can I say, but you know I think you ROCK!   Cool

Two reasons.....

1)  It is my most popular blog, so it gets attention to my work that might not otherwise be had.

2)  It also tells people who I'm reading and who I am not.   I have posted requests in NUMEROUS posts that if you're not on my reading list to leave me a comment - I may not know about you.

Anyone who takes it personally that a stranger on the internet isn't reading their work is just a tad too sensitive to me.  A couple of people have also posted requests if you aren't being read by them to let them know.....and I did, and they have since read & liked my work.

Spitfire:

Hey, sis   Couldn't agree with you more.  I posted mine once, back in August when I left for a spell, but now I don't really see the point.  First everyone has different reading tastes, and as you so wisely said, there's lots of different writing talent on the BN.  Also, I generally make it known who I read by leaving comments - usually, if I leave one comment, that's indicative of about at least five other no comment clicks

And, off topic as always, hope you had a good New Year!

Spitfire
you definately are a spitfire! My personal reasons are to show other writers that yes, I am really partially responsible for the money they are making on the BN or not. So I guess you could say it boils down to clicks. Ass kissing? I only kiss one ass, and he don't even blog, in fact I don't think he could turn the computer on if his life depended on it. I try to read everyone as you can see I hit over a thousand for the last month. You do make some good points though, and they cannot be ignored either. I don't wish to hurt anyone's feelings. So there you have my reason for posting a list. It also helped to get to #1, even if for a short lived amount of time.

I post mine as a joke

and many times do it in a joking way to make sure that people know.

Spitfire, no, I only meant that that's what we usually hear on the BN...I
didn't hear you say that though...so thank you!

Ariala-
Thanks for the comments. One question, though. I'm confused about what you meant by "worse culprits of writing and posting crap...I know, I'm a pro at it! "  Cause if I am understanding you, did you think I meant that Top Ten people write crappy stuff?  Very Confused

Spitfire, you're sweet...good observation and true that those of us in Top
Ten are worse culprits of writing and posting crap...I know, I'm a pro at it!

I agree with you guys, too
b/c I like to see who's reading me and who isn't. (BTW, msaries, you KNOW you're on my favorites list, too and for what it's worth? A lot to me.)  I'm really glad to see (so far) that this commentary did not come across as curt or finger pointing. That wasn't  the purpose.  It was just to show another side to how lists are perceived by others. Thanks for the comments. I was kinda concerned about the subject matter and some feeling as if I was insulting those who post their distributions.

Only one reason: clicks

Yes, you do have some good points. I'm new here, saw everyone else doing it, so I did to. Yeah you do feel bad for the people you haven't gotten to yet though. I'll take that into consideration before I do it again. I do like to see if anyone else is reading my material though, so I figure they wanna see if I'm reading them.

Countdown

Spitfire, I'm of two minds when it comes to reading distributions:

I click to see if my name is on their list.  That's human vanity.  Also, I click to see what their taste in reading material would be as reflected by the bloggers listed.

You make valid points.  For the foreseeable future, I'll keep my distributions to myself.  Rest assured, Spitfire.  You're on my Favorites List, for what it's worth.

Have a nice day.

Real motives?  Clicks.  It's a quick way to get lots of people to read you.  I can't see doing it everyday though.  I thought once a month would be good - but now that I've discovered some inacuracies in the list I think even once a month is too often.  Guess I'll have to resort to ass-kissing the old fashioned way and actually work at it.
