I like you working out a fair system for the crows and observing them so well. That is big of you to overcome your dislike for them and include them in a way that is fair to the smaller birds. I have a liking for them myself because of the many that have seemed to be friends over the years. I, too, have noticed they don't like rapping on windows, even smaller aggressive black birds do not. Maybe they know from "The Raven" not to like rapping and tapping.

Crows are strange at least.
Once they were afraid to come in the yards along our street, not any more. They come very early in the morning then leave, but they are a bossy and loud sort.

I like crows somewhat, they are bit too nervous to come to close to my bird feeders, I think they get enough road kill these days, so they are useful in a way. Keep out of the hot sun, and don't let our Wiley out in the heat. You have a problem lifting cans of water can you not get a plumber to put taps on your tubs, you will strain yourself and then what? Thank goodness we can use the hoses this year although water has to be paid for. A lot are not on a paying meter and soak their gardens, I should love to see paying meters made compulsory, grr'.

I have often been amazed by crows. I once watched as a pair of crows cheated a dog out of his dinner, chasing after one while the other ate, and then they traded places. One would land just close enough for the dog to chase but not catch and then repeat over and over while the other enjoyed lunch.

I like your "nothing" posts!!
Magpies and crows are one of very few creatures that have self-recognition. If you put a bit of paint on their beak and plop a mirror down in front of them, they will actually try to scrape the paint off! They're very clever, but I think this only makes them more annoying!!

Yeah, ya gotta watch them crows! They're tricky, they're forceful, and sometimes they're overbearing! And you're right . . . whatever you do, keep them away from the house!!!

Crows! Yes, just as you describe, bullies that chase everyone else away!
Our little birds came back, where we lived years ago, when the fast-food joints went in about a mile a way. Those crows must have smelled them and scented heaven!

Saw a special on crows produced by the BBC, they've found that
crows do recognize faces, that they talk to one another and can teach their young to recognize a face they've never seen. There used to be a "butler" crow who announced my presence every morning when I left the house to catch the bus downtown.

Beautiful post and now I understand why that one crow keeps knocking on the basement window love.
'Cuz you keep knocking on that same window and shaking your fist at him. Never mind love, I'll look up to the tree tops now if I can't find you, and I'll get you down with my pellet rifle.
