- Go to To Grandmother...a tribute to Pioneer women.
I offer my salute, too! They had it so rough; reminds me to keep myself in perspective because I have not had to tolerate what they did, not even close! sam

It is surprising what women will put up with and have put up with. It must be the gene for survival of the species. You told it as it was, well done. Keep those waggons rolling Blondie.

That was a rough time. I am thankful and grateful to pioneers. The freedoms enjoyed today due to men and women makes proud to live in America. Any suffering I bear does not equate. Good post.

Now that I have told you that, I must go back and read it again.

Yes, life was tough for everyone in those days, and the fact that we have persevered speaks volumes for everyone involved. Nice tribute . . .

That was a powerful poem. Awesome, poignant, painful and tragic but it supported much love brought out in the generations following the worst.

Kabu, your poem is a moving reminder of what the pioneer woman endured.
I have wonderful memories of hiking and camping with my brother in Wyoming. We were hiking on the Oregon Trail once and came upon a marker and sign letting us know that this was the site of a grave where a pioneer woman named Elizabeth had died giving birth to her 8th child.

A great tribute
to a brave and strong group of women! Men may have labored in the fields and fought the wars, but women had their own battles to win and this poem expresses their struggles beautifully!
PS - I'm still smiling about your dancing gnomes!

We ought to do something to honor them for making a better way for some of us. Selling their statue for scrap metal is not the answer.

Grim realistic vision of what the pioneer women lived,
but I've got to believe there was at least a glimmer of joy now and then, a rare family get-together for weddings, funerals, etc., someone around with a fiddle to make music. Your capture of woman's lifestyle then is dead on. I should quit complaining...

Telling it like it was. There wasn't much relief in a woman's life back then. We"ve come a long way, baby!!!
