I remember my grandmother cooking on a wood stove when I was about 7. She made the best cornbread, the fluffiest biscuits, and the best tasting cakes and cobblers in the state. But, before she died, she told me there has to be a special place in heaven for the person that invented the microwave!

An interesting glimpse of a bygone era! But you know what? We still don't have a/c in the house, since both my LSW and I hate it! Fans and open doors and windows with screens, and if it's hot, it's hot, LOL...We rarely use it in our respective cars either...

your mom was indeed old fashion I have never even seen a woodburning stove except in pictures or musuems. Where I am from you dont need a/c it only gets hot once in a while and you just open windows, but here its been hot for two weeks now and I am already tired of it.

When I hear and read of people who lived without air conditioning, I wonder how they did it.

I did my bottled fruit in the oven. I would stand the bottles in about
an inch of water and it worked well.....I did bottle peas once, they went deadly poisonous. Never ate them, for when I opened the stink nearly blew me through the wall.
I enjoyed the cooking on the wood stove I must say but now Wiley and I bought an electric with ceramic top and it cooks like a dream.

CBelieve it or not I was cold last night with my cover in storage for the extermination follow up. Pray that the bank will give me my money to go to work without a photo ID tomorrow morning love. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

Wonderful memories Justi... I could just see you there cooking a storm with your Mama on that wood stove... We did have a run of the mill electric stove as I was growing up but as far as I can remember never had airconditioners. Not in Cuba or in Europe or here for that matter untill well into the 70s... True that when we first moved to the States we lived in Montana and there , in the woods where we had our cabin , it was almost always cool ( if not freezing loll) Then we moved to Washingtong and it was cool as well as very humid, finally here in Miami Beach was where we encounter true heat and my dad decided to move into the 20th century and install airconditioners. I don't think I like them very much though... not unless is truly hot outside. I rather just go out and sit by the sea... the breeze, even the hot breze loll, is enough for me. Be well Justi xoxoxo
