i am a fan of science, ever since i watch karl sagan and cosmos.  my questions is , is the human race capable of practicing pure science, what i am calling pure science is science that does not have a motive.

i am not very good at expressing myself.  an example is that i have always gone to the grocery store and when i clean out the seeds or chop the top of the pineapple off i like to plant them and see if i can grow it.  we are quickly running out of grocery store produce that we can grow from.  we can grow healthy plants from the produce but the fruits do not develope.

wonderful science, but what are the human benefits here.  is the produce tastier, i think not.  do i care that the insects do not touch the plant, not really.  this particular bit of science is scary to me because i do not understand the motive, or maybe i do.

Yes, a very interesting read indeed! But, I'd have to admit, I may be a bit of a "fence-sitter" on this one. I can see the argument from both sides, just as I can see the pros & cons of these GMO's. The benefit of helping underdeveloped countries raise better crops is of course commendable. But at what price? Don't forget, science aside, everything always comes down to money!

And I'm not going to even waste my time droning on about the capabilities of several groups to be able to manipulate survey and research numbers to convey and verify anything they wish the numbers to convey or verify! THAT is nothing new . . .

Very good post.
If I had to choose between eating GMO corn and eating Round Up, I definitely would choose the GMO corn.

I thoroughly disagree with your post.  Ants...one of nature's best scavengers will not even eat GMO foods.  Once upon a time what was being done did help to provide more yields of crops etc.  Nowadays we see  them altering nature to the extreme.

GMO's are even being banned as well as crops burned before it can even be harvested.  This is not just in one country but several.  It's occurring worldwide.  One company is attempting to buy out seed companies so only their GMO seeds are sold.

We see cows being injected with hormones to increase their output.  I have noticed that children are going through puberty at an earlier age.  Coincidence I think so.

I watched a documentary on a particular company that even genetically altered corn to include the pesticide in the seed!

I have tasted many of these so called genetically altered products and I am not the least bit impressed.  I can taste the difference.  I prefer nature's original product.

Such trials and errors come under the heading of "Anyone Can Say Anything"

subheading: Anyone Can Prove Anything.

I salute you for exposing the reality behind arguments that are called 'scientific' but that are, in fact, based in emotional blatherings founded in ignorance, broken and partial information, and, as you say, a certain kind of blind idealism. Such arguments are addressed to people still less informed than they are, and a body of humanity that generally resists becoming more informed, because that might raise too many questions about some of the other absurdities they espouse.

A great read and excellently written arguments. I thoroughly enjoyed

reading this. i do wonder how starving people would feel if denied the chance of sustaniable crops GMOd to cope with poor rainfalls and land that is difficult to grow anything in. It is a huge subject one I enjoy ponderingon.

A really excellent post! You are entirely correct in pointing out that it's important to let science decide any questions related to GMO, and not those who don't understand the science and exploit people's fears for their own agenda...

Identity page?!?

The truth is there, in that results of tests and studies can be manipulated according to the needs and desires of whoever is doing the study. One has to wonder who to trust more - those doing the study for the health of mankind, or those who stand to make alot of money from it? Then there is the other thing to consider - do the benefits outweigh the dangers? I guess it is up to each person to get as much information as possible, then make their own decision. An excellent and thought provoking post, Mia.

A very interesting read. I myself am not familiar with GMOs. I am sure that we will be hearing more about them in the coming years.

You have a lot to say. It may be a delightful conversation to enter. Why is it you have no identity page?
