Well written. It is mind boggling that selfish and self centeredness has led to this.

Social science recognized the decay of the family in Western societies a long time ago, as well as the drop in birthrate which inevitably leads to a decline of the indigenous populations in all industrialized Western countries. But I don't really want to go there on this occasion, and just wish you a happy Mothers' Day...

A sad situation for so many children, and the parents too. It just trickles down generation after generation. There is a great movement going on now to encourage girls that sex and sex appeal is not nearly as important as character. Now, if Hollywood and magazines would pick up on it, their contribution would help change things around. Happy Mother's Day, Justi!

Hopefully young women growing up today will realise what a mess some have made following their peers very often to gain housing and benefits by having a child. Society must share a lot of the blame.

I am sorry to say I can see myself in some of the things you said, my last child was born out of wedlock and I barely knew her dad and I wasnt a youngster I was 42 when she was born and she has lived most her life without her dad. I made bad choices after being dumped by my husband of 20 years, and I dont think it left me in a good mental state. And I felt I had something to prove.

I must admit I wholeheartedly agree with everything you have said. Unfortunately, I'm a realist, and know that such "family values" have been eroding more and more over time. When I first began to read and hear about "career women" claiming they don't need a husband in their lives, that they can have a baby through artificial insemination or adoption and raise their child on their own, I knew that was one of the first salvos towards the beginning of the end. And no, men aren't blameless either, spreading their seed arbitrarily from "conquest" to "conquest," then hitting the high road and never claiming or taking responsibility for the end result! And now we have gay marriage rights and laws, further driving a stake into the heart of the family tradition! Is it a lack of education, a lack of nurturing, a lack of proper role models, a lack of common sense? Who knows? But from where I stand, I believe it will get worse before it gets better! What a world . . .
