Hahaha - I might have done just that, if I hadn't been so shocked and confused at the time!

Re:

I had no idea that our southern neighbours also had bilingual packaging/signage!

As for handling it well, I suppose it could have been worse!

Three cheers for your rant! Believe it or not, this particular debate has been going on for quite some time now, and it still bothers many, many people here in the states that we have to have all of our products, directions and instructions written in both English and Spanish! I wouldn't be too sorry over how upset that woman got. There's a very good chance she was simply frustrated at the turn of events, and it was not your fault at all! In fact, you probably handled that better than most people might have . . .

Re: I understand the frustration...

Ciel, you're so right! I sometimes forget that different cultures have different expectations and socially acceptable behaviors. Maybe that explains her unexpected reaction!

I understand the frustration...

not only are the languages at issue, but also the cultural expectations of how business should be carried on, what is proper, what is rudeness.

Mia

Well, a fellow Canadian, how nice! And with respect to your topic: I do make allowances for people who have a problem with our language, but I'm not the most patient of guys, and I get thoroughly ticked off when people get impatient with me because I don't understand what they believe is English, though is incomprehensible...
