Well, I tried...she blew up (predictably).  She's now left, early her brother is driving her to the train.  Still the same old stuff.. how it's hard to see me with someone else (which she isn't doing so how hard can it be...).  Taking my son to the airport this evening and he will head back to Australia.  Interesting that she's the one blowing up, but I'm the one spoiling his last afternoon by saying something, no matter how gently I said what I felt.

Re: mneme

Thank you, Naut.. I could give it a try.  At our age we are running out of time to be patient, and her opposition makes it harder for me to make some significant decisions.   I don't like the implied threats of cutting off contact but it's up to her.

I'm not surprised, the strain may well have 'helped' that you're coming down with a cold.

I've read it all, the other posts as well, of course, and thought about it, and all I can think of that it's time for a bit of 'tough love', which means that you will have to be a bit tougher! Unless you want this to drag on and on, especially with your daughter, you will simply have to say something like, 'Look darling, this is my decision and this is what I'm going to do. I love you and I would love to have your support, but if you're not able to give me that, so be it. I will no longer listen to complaints from you, or make any allowances to suit you! I shall lead my life with the one I have chosen, and you're welcome to join us [with emphasis on us] anytime...', or something to that effect...
