Re:

That's good to know, sam. Like I wrote, I truly believe that many, many people still like to receive greeting cards in the mail, and the more humorous they are the better!

I am going to keep you advice in mind for the future! sam

Re: JimmyA

Glad to hear it, Sir Wiley! I think more people appreciate it than one might think, especially if it's a humorous card!

Re:

Thanks, Sinome. It's always nice to see that someone is on the "same page" as me, as it were. And don't worry about how your kids feel, who seem to be caught up in this "electronic age," and feel that everything must be done on-line! You keep on sending those cards! They probably appreciate them a lot more than they will readily admit . . . !

I'm still a card sender too JimmyA

You know what Jimmy?  The more I read your posts the more I realize I agree with you  A LOT :-)  I think you are absolutely right about this sending card business... my kids make fun of me because I take the time to go and find cards to send everyone.  They do not understand why won't I just get them on line and get done with it.  You have explained the why better than I could ever explain it :-)  Great post!  xoxoxo

Re:

I'm sure of it, adnohr. Who wouldn't? In fact, for me and my family, I think I may be the only one who sends a weird and whacky card at Christmas time! Everyone else's cards are very bland, very generic, very serious! Me, I say, throw some humor out there! I'll bet even Jesus would get a chuckle or two over a few of the cards I've sent throughout the years . . .

Re: I love receiving cards and sending them.

Absolutely, Symphony! I've yet to meet someone who not only didn't enjoy getting a card in the mail as opposed to yet another bill, but who also didn't like a good laugh or two! I know that sending anything to anyone falls under the heading of "It's the thought that counts," but like you said, the funnier the better . . .

Re:

It really is, Annicita. And believe me, I understand completely your lament about the cost of both the cards and the postage! But much of my family is scattered about, and I don't get to see most of them as often as I might like. So for me, it's a relatively small price to pay to not only keep in touch and let them know I was thinking about them, but also to send that chuckle across the miles . . .

Re: Jimmy

Believe me, Naut, I can understand that! That's one of the reasons why I mentioned being a part of such a large family! Yes, it can sometimes be a daunting task to go out and purchase all of these cards for all of these occasions, but I actually do have a system! My wife and I make sure that every birthday, every anniversary, every event is written on our kitchen calendar ahead of time. So, at the beginning of each month when the calendar page is turned, we can head out to the Hallmark store and get all of the cards we need in one shot, and then send them out as the events and occasions approach. A bit expensive and a bit nerve-wracking, but like I wrote, my friends and family have come to expect it now, so I simply have no choice but to continue . . .

Re: jimmy,

That's very true, jean. It does get a little easier to express yourself to others, especially loved ones, as you get older. But since most of my relatives are scattered all over the country, I believe the best way I can keep in touch with them, while at the same time giving them a chuckle or two, is to send one of those weird and whacky cards! Like I wrote, everyone likes to laugh, regardless of their age . . .

Re:

And that is the best part, FSI. Like I wrote, I search high and low for the perfect card for the right person, sometimes going through several dozen until that certain one hits me and I exclaim "Sold!" And I've been doing it for so long now that everyone who knows me comes to expect it, and actually look forward to receiving my cards! Never a dull moment . . .

Re:

It would seem that way, mariss, although I wouldn't fully understand why. Unless there's bad blood between two people, and one or the other saw the card as being sarcastic, or hitting a little "too close to home," I don't understand why certain people would be bothered by a card that was meant to be humorous. And I thought it was Jeansaw who previously mentioned the greeting cards, but I wasn't sure . . .

Re:

That's a good way to go too, lustor. But like I wrote, unless it's a sympathy card, I will always try to make the recipient laugh, or at least chuckle!

Re:

That's okay, mneme! I think I'm familiar with that particular card, and I know it was meant to be funny. But you're right . . . when taking the risk to send someone a card of that nature, you've really got to know the mindset of the person you're sending it to. There might have been people who may have actually gotten offended by that card! Not because of the busty blonde, but because their memory skills were being questioned . . .

i used to send cards all the time....but now the family is so big and postage keeps going higher and higher ... not to mention the cost of each card....i do love to get my only annual bday card from my older sis....sometimes funny....sometimes not...and yes it is great to get something besides bills in the mail...

Jimmy

You make some excellent points, and in the process manage to increase my sense of guilt by an order of ten. It's certainly partly laziness, but in my defense I must also mention being swamped on those relevant occsions, which has led me to switch from paper to electronics more or less exclusively...

jimmy,

really enjoyed the post, when i was younger i stuck to the traditional card, but as the kids grew older they got funny cards and now we send or give wild and wacky cards, usually something that has to do with the persons personality.  kind of a roast.  and i agree, older people want to laugh, because they have learned to say the other things to your face, like i love you, i am proud of you and please be careful, or i missed you.

I enjoy receiving and giving humorous cards a lot. When it comes to the giving, I enjoy hearing the laughter or hearing about how funny it was.

Jeansaw was one who planned on sending her family cards.   That would be a good idea for some people to send wild and wacky cards to cheer them up.  Some, however, would be offended while others would love them.

I'm with you Jimmy, but only for people I know will take it in the spirit it was intended.  For intance, my 'intended' had a birthday in March - let's just say closer to 70 than 60. I gave him a card with a busty blonde on the front...the card said something like 'if you think you're getting old take this test'... inside it says 'what colour were her eyes?'. I thought it was funny... so did he.  His son was a bit surprised.. lol.
