Re: Naut,
Yes, I am thinking of all sorts of possibilities! A good poultry blend of herbs, and bits of turkey, and some cranberries.... How about that?
And these are so quick and easy, using Bisquick or some generic equivalent, it's hardly baking. Not like making a cake, or pastry where there is real artistry and work required. I don't bake, either, but mainly because I would eat what I baked, and that's no way to keep the weight down!

Re: Annicita,
All-vegie would work just fine, I am sure! I'd use onion, zucchini, carrot, butternut squash... And I'd sautee them first, because I don't think 10 min at 450F would cook them soft enough. And cheese, if you eat dairy. I'll bet swiss--the good imported kind--would be delicious!

Re: Mneme,
I loved the savory muffins in New Zealand, probably just like the Australian kind. And those lovely frittatas!

Re: JimmyA,
You're right about the peppers--they'd have to go with something equally strong-flavored, like dry salami bits. They would also probably be good with extra sharp cheddar, or maybe, feta.

Re: TAPS,
I love cornbread with stuff in it! "Stuffed Cornbread" sounds like something I should make one of these days!

I'm afraid I can't contribute, but they sound very good... I used to buy savoury muffins in Australia... things like zuccini and cheese.. pumpkin.. that's all I can remember.

That all sounds wonderful, but I've never actually heard of "savory" biscuits. Just with the various ingredients you've mentioned, it seems as though there really isn't any right or wrong thing to include! However, you might want to avoid anything with an overly dominate flavor, like peppers . . .

I have. My sons always loved bacon, cheddar cheese, onions and jalapeno peppers, and lots of freshly ground black pepper. I do the same thing with cornbread. Lately I've been experimenting with savory muffins.

While I love cooking, I don't bake, and even making biscuits is baking. But your savory biscuits sound delicious! Have you thought of using smoked Westphalian ham or pancetta instead of ordinary ham? And possibly adding some rosemary and sage?

Re: CCT,
I do it the easy way--Bisquick, you put it in a bowl and add water and mix it up. A little more water for drop bicuits, a little less if you want to roll them out and cut them with a biscuit-cutter.
Getting a new oven sounds like a pain. And expensive pain.

Goodness sounds a lot of work to make biscuits , but I suppose the joy is in the testing.
I need to get a new oven one without a grill inside as I never use a grill and it gets coated with something that smells as it is imposible to clean and too late to burn off.

Re: Pat,
The non-wheat flour is hard to find, unless you look for gluten-free. I head a few things about the standard wheat used today mostly is problematic, but traditional wheats don't have those same issues, so I look for wheat with names--semolina, for instance. And common wheat flour products I try to avoid.

They sound delicious. I think mostly those are baked as crackers
by the big baking companies, but as a warm, buttered biscuit - yum. These days I'd have to find non wheat-based flour, tho.
