Re:
It would have been this time, mariss. Obviously this woman thought the painting was relatively valueless, but I'm sure next time she'll take a moment or two to research her possessions before she parts with any of them! That was indeed a kind, selfless act by a total stranger . . .

That was a kind, selfless act. I would have found it difficult to part with the painting, but would have too. Research is a good idea in most cases.

Re:
Absolutely, lion. Like I wrote, I have a feeling that there are probably more people who might have purchased that painting for a few dollars and resold it for thousands later, never letting the woman know what she had actually had. Whoever he was, I'm sure the cosmos will reward him!

Re:
Lucky indeed, lustor! Like I wrote, I think almost anyone else who may have known of that painting's true value would have probably walked off with it at a steal of a price and resold it later for thousands! I'm sure she'll be a little more careful in the future . . .

Re:
Thanks, mneme! And perhaps you're right. My wife always says that things happen for a reason. And this gentleman happened along at precisely the right time! Something to think about . . .

Re:
The same goes for my wife and me, TAPS. Yes, many of the items are unique and interesting, but the background stories are usually even more intriguing! This was certainly a good one!

Re: jimmy
There certainly are, jean. However, their acts and accomplishments are usually overshadowed by all of the negativity and ills of the world! It's always good to hear and read about such things once in a while . . .

Re:
I would think, sam, that that would have been a pretty good idea! Who knows what else may have been inside that box? Yes, it's always nice to know that there are still some decent folk out there . . .

It's nice that you are here too, Kabu. We don't always get to hear about such things, but it's always good that one of these types of stories comes along once in a while, isn't it?

Re: Jimmy
He was indeed, Naut! In a way it's too bad that that incident happened ten years earlier. I'm sure that the woman would now love the opportunity to thank him again in person. I hope he's a fan of the Antiques Roadshow, and may have seen what his good deed hath wrought!

Re:
It was indeed, Annicita. I'm really not too sure how many other people may have done likewise. I guess it would depend on how knowledgable one is when it comes to either paintings or antiques in general. She was obviously very lucky . . .

Re:
It certainly was, FSI. Like I wrote, he could have simply walked away with a $3 purchase and cashed in on it later. But instead, he chose to give it back to this woman, who I'm sure will never make that mistake again!

I love Antiques Roadshow for just that reason--the stories that go along with each piece.

It really was an act of kindness by a stranger! There are some amazing people in this world who just do the right thing! I think had I been there and they were mine I would have taken them all inside! LOL! sam

Yes, amazing indeed. That was incredibly kind of him to advise her not to sell the painting at the yard sale.
