Re: It is rough that your husband can't work any more...How I would love
kabu i would love to have a girl friend to go with. i started out in the mall with a girl friend, but we both needed more space and ended up with seperate spaces. but my husband goes with me now since he retired and it helps to keep him occupied. i know alot of the other dealers, and have always figured there is room for everyone. i do not pay attention to what the others are doing, i price my items to move, sometimes that means not doubling your money, but selling more and that makes up for it. the business is changing fast unless you deal in the very expensive antiques, that i can't afford to invest in. i buy items that my husband can fix, and painting is all the rage now, and low prices since i live in a very depressed area.

Re:
jimmy, you are sooo right. he is passing on tips to his son now, and he is refinishing some furniture, he goes to sales with me, now i go with him since i am working. he knows exactly what i would buy now and he does most of my buying. it is a shame that alot of what he knows will pass with him.

Re:
lol, years ago i had a doll making hobby, that turned into a six days a week business and in 3 years i was burnt out, if you love doing something, it is best to not try to make money doing it.

to go to the sales with you...I sold a bit of stuff one time and doubled my money on everything, then got into trouble from the dealers in town...OOps. LOL.

Although your husband may have difficulty working directly with his hands, he should still be able to "supervise" anyone else, and pass along his knowledge to anyone receptive. Tasks that make you think and recall are good stimulants for the mind, and I'm sure he has a vast pool of knowledge to share . . .

It is interesting how things can change from being a joy to do to becoming work.

I am sorry to read about your husband! It has to be difficult for him! And, the best of luck with juggling your time to get everything done! I hope you come up with a great set up for your shop in the mall too! sam
