I loved the way I grew up, free to come and go and do, from the time I was very little.  I'm afraid that I raised my sons the same way.  Half the time I had no idea where they were and they always came home in time for supper.  I'm not sure I would want to start over and be a child in this day and age.

It is amazing just how much government is overreaching. I know of no United States federal rule or state rule that has that rule...for now.

Bubble wrapped is suffocating!

A strong immune system is one that lives in the real world and has learned how to fight, imo. Even now in my more fragile health state, I refuse to live in a bubble. I have read of many folks with lung disease who do try to do so; staying away from small children, hardly going out anywhere, asking all would be visitors to not come over if they have sneezed in the last hour...and then when they do get a cold or minor illness, they often end up in the hospital with infections, sometimes multiple times over the course of a year. I've had a couple of colds in the past few months, one case of stomach flu and my immune system worked fine; I recovered with no complications and no trips to the hospital. I'm not careless about germs but not paranoid either..:)

sounds dictatorial to me.  it does make you wonder with all the research they do how did  we survive to be as old as we are

There is a sci fi story along these lines

in which robots and computers take over responsibility for the well-being of Mankind, and finally, never allow us out of our very-safe houses. Anything might happen, outside!

Remember running down our flinty drive sprawling many times bits of grit and goodness knows what else embedded beneath the skin. Just have it washed with warm water bawling of course. Kids waiting for apple cores, rolling marbles in the gutter and dogs and fag ends no doubt. It is the same in a lot of places Kabu people won't let the kids out in the snow etc. It is called progress.

As a armature historian, I remember this sort of thing happening with Germany's great society, until the children went outside and died from the common cold, as they had been so protected from any germs that they had built up no antibodies. I love slobbery cake. Did I mention that I hate frosting (except that gooey stuff on german chocolate cake) so much that I remove it all. Especially at birthday parties, unless they have german chocolate cake.

It sounds too extreme and takes too much of the fun from having a cake.  I would think only if the child had a disease that could be transimitted to other kids.,,,It sounds like the wildlife rules, What has happened to the tough Aussies?!!!that live in the wilds and the extremes.  It does not compute....

It's too bad - I always thought Aussies were particularly sensible people, but now they too are getting nutty...As is their new Prime Minister, Ms. Whatshername...

As in many other things, we tend to go overboard with the kids. All of a sudden we have to take ourselves much more seriously. No wonder there is an increase in cases of depression...

My kids and the neighbor kids drank out of the garden hose

and survived. They ate berries that grew in the woods. They got really dirty, maybe didn't wash their hands except at mealtimes the whole summer long. (Of course they took showers, washed theri hair, etc.) We swam in a public pool. As my brother Jim used to say, "at ease, Louise, there's a fungus among us."
