When it comes to situation like this, I'll always say, "Just go with the flow..." Things will work out its own one way or another. However that way is, as long as you're happy with it and so is your family. :)

I think it is wise of your father to be thinking in these terms as retirement gets closer, it will avoid hasty decisions at the end! sam

I really like the relationship that you and your dad have and that you can talk so easily with each other.

I guess Dad is right to have a fall back plan if you did leave

but I know how happy you two work together and life seems sweet for you both at present. being Dad, he would never hold you back but it shows how much he has come to rely on your abilities work ethics and common sense.

Well FS I have found in this life nothing lasts forever, your dad is wise to look to the future. My dad died at 56 and we had great plans.

You are a wise son FSI...I closed my subscription yesterday thinking I would have time to say goodbye and learned that one must say those things before pressing the button, so I reopened it for a prolonged goodbye as I did not want to leave without letting my friends know how much I will miss them. So now I guess you are stuck with me tell February.

It's always good to have an idea where your future would lead and what the major decision effectors would be, better still if you can have a course of action in mind for the key potential junction points in your life
