I know too little about the disease. I have a close friend who is a speech therapist and she has worked a lot with them and still knows little about much more than ability to speak. My doctor tells me that the differences are about as numerous and those who have the disease. I believe their keen sense of awareness about who is near even when they can't call the name. I am praying for you dear one.

They seem to remember songs and stories that were of great importance in earlier years. I am glad this made you feel better about the disease. Hope it will be erraticated soon.

Although it does require a lot of patience, these people do need help and assistance. My dad suffered from Alzheimers for a few years before he passed away, and I did my best to treat him as if nothing was wrong. We talked, we watched TV, we ate dinner together, and I made sure he felt that nothing was out of the ordinary. Bless you both for your hard work!

Here's an answer to prayer for you. Peter's step-brother who was in maximum-security prison for eight years has completely turned his life around. He married a wonderful widow with two children, has a good job with the welding he learned in prison, has been going to church with his new family, looks so wonderfully happy and expressing so much thanksgiving and gratefulness to God. Yesterday, he was baptized by emersion as a profession of his faith. Recently they went out to visit Peter & fam in CA and he got his very first experience with the ocean. It's hard to remember when he was so mean that Peter was afraid of him and had to be on guard at all times.

You and George are truly giving souls, Dear Justi..
This post touches me...The disease is tragic; my Grandmother suffered it.
And I remember her lovely voice singing "Swing Low." This was before she became noticeably unaware of things. The chariot sparked my child's imagination..:) When the disease advanced, her favorite song was "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for some reason..

How sweet, Justi. I'm wondering if other senses don't develop more while alzheimers steals our memory - some of the basic senses, as those of a child or loved pet who seem to sense when something is wrong? You and George are doing terrific work, showing immense kindness, and you'll surely reap what you sow.

I know it is devastating Justi and truly bad for the carer who sacrifices years sometimes in a vacuum of hours. Visitors rare as hen's teeth. Not many can accept the change of personality. I think you and George deserve a medal, if I were the Queen I would give you one each, but you would have to learn to curtsy.
