Our little commuter airport is away from the lake but we don't even have jets coming over our town. We appear not to be on the way to anywhere.

That does sound nice, but I hope you're not near any airports! Over here on parts of the East coast, we've had loads of trouble with geese and other birds getting sucked into jet engines, and the airports have been doing crazy things to keep the geese away! So, if their migrating patterns seem thrown off at times, it's probably because they're trying to by-pass the runways!

They are a sight to behold, aren’t they?  We have a few hundred across the street who decided, many years ago, to not fly South for the winter.  On the West Coast winter’s used to be predictably mild so I guess it was warm enough for them to hang around and feed in the lovely marsh across the way.   These past few years, however, we’ve had fairly aggressive snow storms and although they tend to short lived it’s still pretty sad to see all the Canadian Geese huddled together trying to stay warm.   Maybe they’re re-thinking their stay-at-home decision.

I suppose in the old days they would have been welcome for the old cook pot. I admit it is nicer to watch nature than destroy the wonder of this creation.

When I was boy there were no Canadian geese here in the city. Now they are everywhere and they stay all year long. I really like to see them in all the parks and golf courses. I guess the golfers have other thoughts. It seems they are quite messy on the tees.

We have some large lagoons down by the Lake (Lake Ontario) where, throughout autumn, they come in for a stop-over before continuing on to visit you - quite the sight! Of course, there are also many who stay here throughout the winter! They don't know they're missing all your southern hospitality...

I agree with Kabu too - this post made me SMILE!!! Southern hospitality!!I imagine the geese are much like the two people watching their reunion, offering warmth and welcome.

What a lovely post and probably those same Geese greet each other with a

ritual every year. How exciting, how beautiful, how I wish they had given me a lift down to see you and George.A really lovely post dear one.
