Interesting thoughts about the differing versions. Maybe ancestry.com would bring some answers. But this is just a thought, I have never even tried to use it myself, just seen it advertised.

As a person with a B.A. in history, one can infer that I like it. To me, a lot of the fun is the fact that there are so many disagreements about what happened and why. It leads to a lot of discussions...I wonder how future generations will lack back at these times.

I once read a book that was based on actual historical events, but the writer admitted in the preface that there were a few pertinent facts missing that he had to fill in himself with speculation. So he touted the book as "historical fiction couched in fact." If you write a paragraph of ten sentences, where nine of the sentences are true, and just one is false, then the entire paragraph has to be considered false. That's just the way it goes!

yes we all see things differently, the Bible is a good example of interpretation of it. I am sure my brother and I would see our family differently

I'm not sure I want to know anymore of the history of my family, I've heard enough. One grandfather that drank his judiciary career away, and my parental grandpa was a fallen down drunk with his head laying on the bar of New Brunswick and bankrupted his hotel. So no wonder I've been sober 44 years, the history of the family sobered me up.Most of history is best forgotten, or rewritten for fun as you do love.

I wrote a little poem about this aspect of memory once:
You stand to one side, I to the other
We have different memorie of our mother.

You are absolutely right, people never agree about the subjective parts of an event (unless they have been repeatedly told how they feel about it by the media or a very pushy person)

Amazing indeed, Dear Kabu...
I've written a bit about some of my genealogy discoveries and the differing reactions and perspectives from other relatives were very interesting. Good post!

Families are tricky things Kabu that vary with view points. In the book of poetry I am writing I am trying to show what makes an addict, or at least what made this addict, in the first part of the book, and what saved this addict in the last part of the book. Each poem leads to the next. I know that the first part is rather sad, but that is the way it was. It's not that I am living in these memories, only presenting them in an effort to let the reader understand how many addictions come about and that there is hope for those who need all the hope they can get. Most folks do not have near the down falls that I did. I thank you and Wiley from the bottom of my heart for reading it as your, and Wiley's opinions mean so much to me.

Kabu, some of us have a special problem when it comes to history
Story-tellers as we are, it is hard to not latch onto a good story, and want to tell it or believe it as it should have been...

You are so right, research can bring about more questions than answers at times! I may have found a house! I will know more tomorrow and I will let you know! It's absolutely beautiful and in my price range! sam
