Re:the bear
Nope, CC, he was busy making another one about 6 feet away. Like ships that pass in the night.

Rather nice that the bear was not init. If that's not grammer it ought to be. Sorry, sorry, sorry, if you don't find out it does not matter.

Re:lionreign
Thank you, but ol' Bill Faulkner got their first and - uncharacteristically -probably did it in as few words as I did! And the wonders don't end with discovery of the pawprint!

Re:shobana
The scene in the book just goes on from there to become really rich and thought-provoking!

Re: adnohr
I don't think you'll regret it - I'm no Faulkner fan (I honestly tried to read As I Lay Dying and Absalom, Absalom - had to give them up), but he hit a grand slam with this one!

Poem is chilling enough! But you've convinced me - I'll look for the story.

Re: I haven't read it but the bear Print chilled my soul as well.
Kabu, if you have a free afternoon, you and Wiley should read it. It was part of a longer novel - The Hamlet, I think - and in the editing process preparing it for publication as a separate work (The Bear), a very obscure chapter got left in by mistake. When you come to it, just skip it - nothing is lost. But what a story! Nobility, courage, nature, loyalty, tradition, reverence - it's all there.

Re: I haven't read that..
Faulkner turns it into a very memorable scene - not violent or scary, but thrilling and inspiring. Nuff said.
