I too grew up in a hunting family, pheasant, ducks, quail, and deer. I was not a year old when I went on my first deer hunt and did not miss another until I went into the Marines. I do not go any more though. When I shot my last deer he just looked at me like, why did you do that and it broke my heart. When I was putting him in my freezer all wrapped in whit paper, I remembered how beautiful he was out on the mountain, and went then and there and sold my rifle.

I never did hunt but owned a rifle and did a lot of target shooting.

I am glad you read it. To me it is as natural as anything. I would not do it now. I would not want to kill anything, at the time, it was our food. We slaughtered beef and pork, ate chickens and all them came from our farm so you had to learn to do it. A dog trainer is a special person, of course I thought my dad was special anyway. A well trained pointer or setter will hold point for however, long it takes a hunter to come for the game. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Justi

Thanks for a fun post! It does bring back memories of my own. My Dad didn't hunt,  but one of my uncles owned a farm where I sometimes spent part of my summer holidays, and he introduced me to it and taught me how to handle a gun. He had a wonderful Shorthair Pointer who was similar to Ben in appearance, but was properly trained, unlike Ben, whose education leaves a lot to be desired...

I later did some hunting when I ws living in Nova Scotia, but at some point decided I didn't want to do it any more...

I agree with you. They do not know how to survive. They do not know how to grow from nothing whether it be mental power, physical or anything if it is not on computer they miss it.

memories from Childhood...there is magic in a happy Childhood

and perhaps we Had happier times than what all this frantic need to rush around and focus on giving the kids the best of everything that today seems to be.

I wish we had been neighbors, we would have had a lot of fun. I don't know why but I was into making money as far back as I can remember. But I have never been nor am i greedy for so much of it, I think I loved the challenge to see if I could do something worth someone paying for it.

No wonder you grew up with an entrepreneurial spirit.  I used to go squirrel hunting with Dad, but he always skinned and cleaned them and Mom made squirrel dumplings, and I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwich after watching it all.
