Life was safer and happier for children then, in my opinion. I miss those days for children.

It does seem strange little kids traipsing for miles into woods and playing with soldiers, who really were only young lads waiting for miles on kerb-sides to go to oblivion. History Kabu.

I remember being free to roam as a kid, and there was open land,
forests, a glacier-fed creek that wended through the valley. My kids rode their bikes all over town, played in the woods, went to the ball diamond, played kick-the-can, etc., all summer long. But these days kids, like the family mutt, have to be on a leash. There are so many more people, so many more dangers... sigh.

I raised my kids on 20 acres and they still think of the times fondly! I wonder about today's kids, too! When they grow all they will have to talk about is the latest gadget they got when they were young and they will all discover they do not know how to entertain themselves because they were stuck in front of a screen of one kind or another! They will never know how much they missed because they were locked into the machine as it were! WOW! sam

I am so thankful that my siblings and I were pretty much free to roam the outside and be creative with our play and enjoy nature. My boys were raised the same way. Loved it....all of us did.

We still have children playing in the streets here! Mind you, they aren't barefoot - they're wearing Nikes...

That is a warm-hearted picture. Maybe the children did not have much, but they did have something much more precious--a carefree environment in which to play.
About being late--don't sweat it. Sometimes, I am late, too; particularly when I am tired and need rest first.

What a beautiful picture. You know why there were no pedophiles. Everybody including them, were working. There were no handout programs to bring in extra drugs and booze into the homes. People worked, teens were not running to drugs because they did not have the right clothes or shooting people for a pair of shoes. They were taught values and many went to church, much greater numbers than today. Excellent post.
