Flowers  This is a excellent post and like others I hold out the hope that changes can be made that better the minds and lives of our children and some adults.

It's time to charge the parents for the offense of raising brats as ignorant as they are....

Children today are not disciplined like we were!

While I was never brought up in the children-are-to-be-seen-and-not-heard camp, I was brought up to respect my elders and my peers. If I showed any lack of respect, there were consequences.

While my parents didn't really spank me, they made certain I knew their rules and adhered to them. They didn't tell me, "No!" and then let me get away with whatever it was I was doing.

Today I see more and more parents telling their children not to do something, but not following through when the child continues to do it.

As for the bus driver in your post: He/She cannot discipline the children on the bus for fear of retribution--if he/she physically desciplines the child, he/she is seen as an abuser.  If he/she kicks the child off the bus, he/she is seen as abandoning the child to possible predators.

Our society now dictates what kind of discipline a child can receive, and as such, children are not learning proper behaviors. They are learning that even if someone says "No," they can continue their bad behavior without serious consequence.

You have made some very good points. Most interesting may be the suggestion that the demeanour of those at the top should change. Here in the US, Europe is lambasted by politicians for its social policies; yet no one applauds it for its civility. I think we would do better if we adopted some of their behaviour.

Stay wel; walk good always.

I think it is never to late for change, but it has to start at the top and at home for me! sam

It's pathetic, but doesn't surprise me. We're dealing with the children of the children of the Spock generation...

excellent post. I have no idea what can be done in Western society to

make a difference. More people like you need to be speaking out.

Hopefully it's not too late for change, but unfortunately, a lot of the fault does lie with the parental skills, or lack thereof, of today's parents. I was bullied too as a kid. If I could go back in time . . . !
