Three (3) years ago, I suspended my subscription to Blogit. You were one of the last persons to comment on my posts then. Now I am back for a while and I see you are stiil here. And your writings are clearly positive and heartfelt. I applaud you for that. And stay well always.

I lived in 'town' sporadically I did not like not having lots and lots of roaming room. I guess I thought all the land around was ours in theory I went all over all of it. That must have been really difficult for your mother to lose her gardening spots.

It is easier to remember this time verbatim than to remember where I left my glasses ten minutes ago.

I always wanted long blond curls, but I had to make do with brown braids.
I love your writing about your childhood and your family. Even though there were seven children in our family and we lived in the city, I can relate to the gardening, canning, chickens and such. There was in those years a vacant lot on three sides of our lot and dad always got permission to use them for gardening.....until one day when I was an early teen someone built houses on all those lots and shrunk our gardening abilities.

Re: I long for more, living history and a wonderful story that needs telling.
I am so glad you love it. I am much older than you but your country was a bit behind at the time than we, so I bet you have some wonderful stories to tell as well. Those I have heard were just that, wonderful. Be blessed.

Re: FSI
I think it will seem like in another lifetime to my daughter too. It is not that long ago. We are too ready to think real life is confined between two lines our birthdate and today. Not so. Life is far more interesting if we explore all of it we can.

People talk about all the poor black people being sharecroppers. There were as many white people as black down south in the same boat. People back then worked and did succeed to whatever level available to them. It could be that way now, but the government regulations against tiny business would not allow that.

Thank you so much for your comment. I am delighted you like this. That is why I am writing it. I like my history, I want to share it, especially with my daughter and grandson. The first thing I had published was a story called. "Curt, Fannie and the Kid", it was about hunting with my father and how I missed him after he had died.
I was amazed that anyone would want to hear that except my family but they did.

Re:
I had little distraction. I did not play much, had no siblings so I believed all that I thought was the way it was. I communicated with adults all the time and it stayed with me. It is much easier for me to remember things from 60 years ago than from 2 hours.

Thank you so much for your comment. Yes my parents would help neighbors but never just sit and chat until all work was done for the day. They were good people.

It's neat to read of how things were so many years ago. You make me feel as though I am there.

Lovely story Justi, times were hard but people could work and improve themselves,.not talking keeping up with the neighbours, but with honest toil. I really enjoyed this, well done.
