Re:

Jay this was a true experience, I should not think the old gentleman had ever told anyone about this. He was quite ill and had suffered in the Japanese prison camp he had pictures that he had drawn on the wall all of ships and boats. I wish I could have spent more time with him, as I think he liked to talk especially of the old days, and we always called me my son even when I was 50. Of course I do not mind.

Re:

Well Sam I think I have an intolerance to wheat, I have been eating those little wormy things but I found that they are made of durham wheat. Arthur has graciously cooked me another portion for the evening, as an experiment, I really like rice puddings made with creamy milk, but one must look for an alternative. I expect you are like me when I didn't have any money much, I did not spend any much.

I suppose you have the right idea to get the rice palatable, but I like rice however it's fixed! And the poem was very poignant, one cannot understand poverty unless they have been there! I have know it and been on the other end with lots of money but have found that enough money to get by on is when I have been the most content! It's all about planning and I have mastered that one! I can get quite a bit for my money these days although I haven't always been that way! We seem to spend according to what we make, and there are those who continuously overspent! I feel badly for them because the spend is usually frivilous in nature and serves no real purpose but to keep them indebted to the 'man' so to speak! sam

That is a beautifully evocative piece, I was entranced.

As for the rice, I have a recipe of easy egg fried rice you can have

Re: Sometimes the wistful feeling of your writing

Pat perhaps you are able to sense a feeling of loss which used to dominate the positive outlook of life. Perhaps you also sought something that you were never going to find.

A truly poetical, comment.

Re:

TAPS as I was with my Father working for about 12 years until he died, I did learn quite a lot of the family history on his side , while he never told me the murky bits, but I found out from other relatives about the missing pieces. Today I doubt whether half the kids even know the slightest bit about their forbears, we are tribal in a way, to be isolated from one's past, cannot really be a good thing. Re: Arthur bullies you unnecessarily, get a nice tin of soup and heat a little

Kabu actually I think he thinks that he is doing it for my own well-being. Anyway I have lost four pounds this week doing my 10 second exercise,Arthur was ill after attempting the same.

Arthur bullies you unnecessarily, get a nice tin of soup and heat a little

and pour it over the rice. Something like cream of Chicken, then add some cheese and you have a tasty meal. Keep the rest of the soup in a container in the refrigerator.

Often your writings make me think of my Dad and what a special man he was.  I would have loved knowing him when he was a boy.  In some ways I do, from the tales he told of his youth.

You touch upon things that most if not all of us can relate to.

Sometimes the wistful feeling of your writing

pulls so strongly I can feel the chill morning's fog above the warmer water in the stream, smell the fresh mountain air where I walked, a shadow among the trees, looking for substance. Where was my knight, my protector? Not there.
