I remember the days of innocence, when all seems right with the world! It's too bad we can't take a real walk down memory lane just to observe where we were then and now! I guess it's time to fire up the time machine! lol sam

"How was I to know that this was childhood
the stream would be immortal and I was a tiny actor"...
Man, you have a nack for waking childhood memories! But we did take our shoes off, mostly; I remember the way mud squished between my toes, and sometimes I can catch that feeling again, in summer, because I still like going barefoot...

When I was a child, I never thought of life as cruel, though looking back, I see that often it was indeed just that.

Re:
Adnohr thank you I guess you had plenty of opportunities in your neck of the woods. No did not accept the Turkey or a manky bag of yellow mushrooms which she said were edible.

Kabu it is amazing how things have changed, I wondered the other day are there any swagmen still around. Or are they all on Social Security?

Wiley, Kabu seemed very sure you could manage it. We will make an ice trucker out of you yet. I bet that was really sweaty, it is the other vehicles that one has to look out for. I don't think you would have wanted a slice of that Turkey.

Amanda, thank you, it is nice, when one conceives an idea and can write it without a struggle. I like your idea of the scroll with green and red ribbons, it sounds very fine

Re: Trying to net minnows and crawdads
Pat I expect your streams were more exciting than ours, we had to grow a bit more before we were allowed by the rivers. Thank you.

Trying to net minnows and crawdads
in a clear, fast-moving shallow, spotting deer tracks and the funny little handprints made by raccoons along the muddy shore -- it's all still there, eternal, while I am here. I love the way your work sets my mind in motion.

Ubelievable Joy
I'm sitting here in my bedroom, drinking a hot cup of tea, quickly removing the mask (for nebulizer)for a moment to get a sip of tea, while I am reading your quaint tale just as a storyteller would have told, but alas, your's is the real story. Beautifully told. You should put them all in a book,if not to sell, but duplicate and hand out to relatives on Christmas day. I would roll it like a scroll and tie it with green and red ribbons.

Last night we drove for three steering wheel gripping hours in a blizzard from Ottawa to Pembroke. So today it is rather pleasant to read of things like compost and frozen turkeys and all old chap.

A lovely poem, CC. Many of us did the same, and can identify with memories similar to those expressed here. I hope you didn't eat that turkey??
