I could relate to your Christmas story and haven't children grown more expecting of things now. Good for you getting the car out of the ditch she was a very crafty lady it seems.

Re:

That is good news Sam, I know batteries are expensive, mine cost nearly that but is garanteed for the life of the vechicle. Yes he deserves his holiday.

It is so true, I believe our children are in for a real let down.

As Naut said, we should look more to the parents who are raising this generation of children or young adults who have a grand sense of entitlement.  They would probably sneer at a box of soldiers...

I think most people would agree with you about today's kids. But then, aren't those people the parents of today's kids???

And tales of Ellie are always fascinating...

I am so with you that kids of today have such high expectations of what they should receive for gifts, no matter the holiday! And that gal was quite the con artist if I may say so! You are a fine man to have put up with her! I talked to Christopher today, he said he was going to frame the Blue Star flag that I hung for him while he was in Afghanistan! He was very touched by my gesture! Then he told me that the deployment to Cuba has been cancelled and he cannot be deployed to a war zone for three years! So it seems I have some breathing room! He sounded so good on the phone! He had to buy a battery for his truck since it has sat around all these months at a cost of $100, American. He's off to Florida on Wednesday for a 10 day holiday! Good for him, too! sam

Your Ellie stories put me in mind of my Auntie Mae

who was one nobody forgot. They rolled over in a car one rainy night, after a few drinks at the Town Tavern. All managed to climb out, no serious injuries, but no other cars came along for a while, so Mae suggested they all climb back inside and get out of the rain.

C_C_T..Ellie has left you in the lurch when it comes to money

a few times, if I'm remembering the right person...you must have handed her quite a bit, maybe more than a fiver by the list of what she brought back...did you ever count your change??....
